Publication Score Comments
Wine Spectator 92 FOR THE 2012 VINTAGE
Compact and filled with sleek flavors of fresh herbs, stone and celery salt, presenting a firm edge to the acidity. Chamomile and lemon cake details fill the refreshing finish. Drink now through 2035.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92 FOR THE 2012 VINTAGE
Pale golden yellow. Enticing aromas of raspberry, mint and sassafras mingle with a sensation of honey. Ripe and full yet discreet, this auslese is both dense and light on the palate. Finishes complex and long.
The Wine Advocate 93+ FOR THE 2014 VINTAGE
Clear and smoky on the nose, with stone meal and citrus/grapefruit flavors, the 2014 Riesling Graacher Himmelreich Auslese (AP #17) is sweet and piquant on the palate, as well as nicely salty in the finish. There is still a lot of CO2 in the wine, but the mineral grip in the finish reveals its true character. There is very good phenolic structure, which results in a good grip.
The Wine Advocate 94 FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
The 2015 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese (AP 16) displays a very clear, precise and flinty/smoky bouquet of perfectly ripe stone fruits and crushed stones, intertwined with lemon flavors. This Auslese is enormously mouth-watering, incredibly piquant and salty, with an endless flow of lush fruit juice and melting minerals. This is a great Riesling and a digestible, picture-book Auslese.
James Suckling 96 FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
Quite closed on the nose, but this is already gorgeous on the palate. The myriad ripe fruits are so precisely delineated, the acidity so vital and urgent that if you drink it now you'd still be stunned in spite of missing some of the riches it has to offer. Everything is perfectly in place, and the finish is literally breathtaking.
Vinous - Antonio Galloni 94 FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
This is another Prüm 2016 seductively loaded with floral perfume, but here it’s bittersweet, suggesting gentian and iris as well as honeysuckle. The palate and superbly sustained finish deliver delicacy allied to silken richness and gloss, featuring intense pear, pineapple, quince and almond paste flavors together with striking transparency to stony and maritime mineral nuances.
Wine Spectator 93 FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
Well-crafted, showing a bright and suave character, displaying ripe peach, mango and mineral nuances, this auslese sings harmoniously on the palate. Silky and full of energy, with a lingering aftertaste of lime and honey. Very delicious now, but will also age for years. Drink now through 2034. 150 cases made.
The Wine Advocate 95 FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
The 2016 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese (AP 09 17) shows very fine botrytis and orange tea character on the delicate and nicely concentrated nose. Very elegant, piquant and lush on the palate, with mineral expression, refreshment and persistent structure, this is a serious and complex Auslese of great class. Highly recommended.
Wine Spectator 94 FOR THE 2017 VINTAGE
An unctuous, concentrated auslese, fueled by a slight fizz and prominent acidity. Very vibrant, but also expressive and rich, gaining extra dimension from minerally accents to the honeyed apricot flavors. Tempting now, but this will only get better. Drink now through 2040. 120 cases made. — AZ
Wine Enthusiast 95 FOR THE 2017 VINTAGE
Cellar Selection: Spicy, smoky earth tones and shards of slate juxtapose decadent sweet grapefruit and yellow cherry in this complex auslese. It's light as a feather yet unctuously ripe and rich with a reverberating fringe of bitter chestnut skin. A bit tight now but it should reveal stunning layers of fruit and earth from now–2040.
Wine Enthusiast 96 FOR THE 2017 VINTAGE - 96 POINTS
The 2017 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese is coolish, bright and fresh on the still-reductive but attractive nose with its fine Riesling and slate aromas. The wine is salty-piquant and terribly fresh on the palate, with very fine Riesling and crispy-salty slate expressions. This Auslese is highly refined, crystalline and more intellectual compared to the Badstube, but hedonists would take it as well. A gorgeous, highly digestible Auslese. Tasted in March 2019.
