Jancis Robinson NA FOR THE 2014 VINTAGE
(16/20) Dark crimson. Scented and concentrated. Rather arresting for the money. Edgy but with lots of fruit too. GREAT VALUE
Wine Spectator 90 FOR THE 2014 VINTAGE
Black cherry, pomegranate, spicy oak and licorice aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this dense, muscular red. Leans toward the oak slightly, but give this a year to settle. Best from 2019 through 2027. 415 cases made.
The rich, velvety and mouth coating middle weight flavors exhibit the most minerality of any of the Marsannay entries and it adds a subtle sense of lift to the firm but not especially austere or rustic finale. This offers very good if not truly exceptional quality.
The Wine Advocate NA FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
The 2015 Marsannay Clos du Roy, matured in 25% new oak, has a punchy, slightly rustic bouquet: brambly red berry fruit, undergrowth and a touch of strawberry jam. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. It should give modest drinking pleasure over the next 4-5 years.
The Wine Advocate NA FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
The 2016 Marsannay Clos du Roy, which comes from 70-year-old vines, has a pleasant blackberry and blueberry-scented nose, moderate delineation, a little tinniness in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm structure on the entry, quite masculine in style with plenty of freshness
