Torbreck "The Factor" 2015
Region: Barossa Valley
Winery: Torbreck
Grapes: 100% Shiraz
Color: Red
Vintage: 2015
Label   Shelf Talker   Fact Sheet

Description: This wine is composed entirely of Shiraz, harvested from the oldest, most revered vineyards in the Barossa Valley. This is Torbreck's tribute to those surviving vines and the growers who tend and nurture them each season. It is made in the traditional Torbreck manner. All parcels are vinified separately. Fermentation takes place in small open vats and are 'pumped over' twice daily. The wine is then pressed in basket presses and transferred into French oak barriques and hogsheads where malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine is then racked through a primitive system relying solely on gravity. The Factor is usually bottled after 24 months maturation, dependant on the vintage. Rich and rewarding upon release and beautifully ethereal with age. The sub-districts used in the composition of The Factor are; Marananga, Greenock, Moppa, Ebenezer and Gomersal. The individual components of this wine combined, produce an average yield of 1 to 1.5 tons per acre in a region where 6 tons per acre is more common. The 2005 Factor displays the concentration & fruit purity that only the most meticulous farming can achieve. Delicate scents of wild blackberries, pipe smoke and pepper are supported by a dark core of espresso roast, black currants and coal. The palate offers tremendous texture and combines great richness with subtle notes of olive tapenade, saddle leather and minerals. Brooding and densely packed, this majestic wine has the constitution to cellar for many years where it will slowly unravel its extravagant riches.

Wine Enthusiast 98 FOR THE 2013 VINTAGE
Full-bodied and plush yet vibrant and imbued with fresh fruit, this is simply superb. The oak is present but never dominant, adding brown sugar and cinnamon elements to blueberry, roasted meat, espresso and black olive notes. A hint of peppery spice also creeps into this impossibly complex wine. The finish combines power, length, freshness and dusty tannins, suggesting that while impressive now, it should age well. Drink now– 2030
James Suckling 97 FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
This is a wine of impressive depth and detail with a strong delivery of ripe and lively black cherries, blackberries, blood plums and mulberries. Dark chocolate, baking spices and tarry nuances, too. The palate has immensely powerful flavors that are faithfully guarded with long, deep tannins, carrying a very confident, sexy and convincing expression of great Barossa shiraz. A superb wine. Drink or hold.
Wine Spectator 95 FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
Juicy and vibrant up front, balancing power and elegance, this offers a precise mix of gingerbread, orange peel, date and black walnut notes that segue seamlessly into chocolate-covered dried blueberry and blackberry flavors. Everything comes together with tremendous grace and harmony on the long, epic finish. The polished tannins never get in the way. Shiraz. Drink now through 2028. 400 cases made.
