The Wine Advocate 94 FOR THE 2012 VINTAGE
The smallest production release, with roughly 300 cases made, the 2012 Côte Rôtie La Garde is 100% Syrah that sees a full 36 months in new French oak. More closed, backward and tight than the other cuvees, it reluctantly gives up firm, edgy notes of black raspberry, liquid smoke and violets. Medium to full-bodied, with firm tannin and juicy acidity, it’s in need of 4-5 years of cellaring and will have upward of two decades of longevity.
Wine Spectator 94 FOR THE 2011 VINTAGE
A suave red, with warm plum sauce, raspberry reduction and blackberry compote flavors gliding along, enlivened by just enough hints of anise, alder and incense. The long, fine-grained finish lets the fruit hang beautifully. Best from 2016 through 2027. 250 cases made. –JM
