The Wine Advocate 92 FOR THE 2010 VINTAGE
The 2010 Art, from very old Mencia vines planted at 700-900 meters altitude and cropped at 25 hectoliter per hectare, is a dark, powerful and concentrated wine. A beast of a wine, especially in the palate, it’s impeccably built to last. The 18 months in barrel are unnoticeable in the wine, as it clearly needs some extended slow micro-oxygenation that the oak provides to tame this beast. They produced 12,500 bottles of this remarkably powerful wine. Drink 2016-2022.

No wonder the 2012 Art came at the top of what I tasted from Luna Beberide. It is pure Mencía from south-facing vineyards on slate soil which fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged for 18 month in French oak barrels and was bottled unfiltered into 12,500 bottles. It has a harmonious nose with well-integrated oak aromas and a core of red and black fruit that is fresh and quite lively. The palate is medium-bodied and very balanced with good acidity and a seriousness that hints at a very long life in bottle even though it's already very approachable.
Wine Spectator 91 FOR THE 2012 VINTAGE
Kirsch and blackberry notes are racy and perfumy in this expressive red. Licorice, espresso and wild herb accents add interest. Balsamic acidity and slightly chewy tannins impart structure. Exotic. Mencía. Drink now through 2025.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92 FOR THE 2010 VINTAGE
Glass-staining purple. Explosively perfumed bouquet evokes red fruit liqueur, potpourri, smoky minerals and Asian spices. Vibrant, palate-staining raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show superb intensity and carry no fat. Silky, sweet and penetrating, finishing with excellent clarity and mineral-driven persistence.
